Expats encouraged contributing to Bangladesh economy

DHAKA: Bangladesh Ambassador to South Korea Abida Islam has encouraged the expatriate Bangladeshis for their active involvement and contribution to the economy of Bangladesh.

She also highlighted on the background of Bangladesh’s economic success story and pointed out different aspects of the process of graduation from LDC including the opportunities and challenges.

The Ambassador was addressing a programme arranged by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul to celebrate Bangladesh’s attainment of required criteria for Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation, as was officially announced by the United Nations Committee for Development recently, said a press release on Sunday.

The programme included a week-long consular service, film festival, business seminar and musical performance.

The Embassy rendered consular services from March 19-23. Besides, a new Bangladeshi film was screened every evening on the same period.
A business seminar was also held on March 22 with the participation of Bangladeshi expatriate businessmen, professionals as well as representatives of prominent Korean business houses.

The Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy gave a presentation on promotion of trade and investment with South Korea.

Expatriate Bangladeshis expressed their firm confidence on the economy of Bangladesh and placed their suggestions to enhance trade and investment relations with Korea.

The Korean business people also inquired about the incentives in doing business with Bangladesh.
