Faisalabad Air Freight Unit seizes 410 smuggled mobile phones worth Rs 4m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) has seized more than 410 pieces of smuggled cellular phones at Faisalabad International Airport during checking of passengers who were arrived here through flight no. FZ- 343 from Dubai.

Sources told Customs Today that an AFU team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Rizwan Khan, comprising Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Inspector Muhammad Munir Ahmad, Muhammad Shahid Iqbal, Ahmad Hussain, and others intercepted a passenger who was carrying two bags, one bag was hand carry while the other was loaded on trolley. The Customs team asked the passenger namely Muhammad Ilyas son of Muhammad Mushtaq who is a resident of Sialkot holding passport No, CP1748132 having CNIC NO, 34602-4216813-1 to show receipt or invoices but he failed to provide any relevant documents.

The customs team found LG mobile set  (99 nos), Samsung mobile (143 nos),  77 mobiles of different brands. The AFU seized mobile under section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 with section 16, 18, 139, 157, of the Customs Act 1969.

The value of these cellular phones was estimated at Rs4,00,0000 involving customs duty Rs8,36,948. sources said.
