FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti- Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has recovered 25 tons of Indian origin cloth from M/S Mahim Textile Mills godown during special operation.
Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh received credible information regarding smuggling of foreign origin cloth lying at M/s Mahim Textile mills godown situated at D Type Colony Faisalabad.
After obtaining due search warrants Deputy Collector Amjad Aman Leghari immediately constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Superintendent Anjum Sheraz which also comprises Inspectors Rana Babar Hafiz Mubashir Saeed Sabir and others sepoy took part in operations.
The team has raided a secret cloth storage godown and recovers 25 tons Indian cloth worth Rs 48 million.
On demand the staff of M/s Mahim Textile Mills failed to produce any documentary evidence of lawful possession and legal import cloth at the spot. The staff inquired about the owner of thecCloth from the people present nearby, but no one Claimed the ownership of the said cloth.
Meanwhile ASO seized the clothe under section 168 of the customs act 1969 for violation of Section 2(s) read with SRO 566(I)/2005 dated 06.06.2005 Section 16 18 of the customs act 1969 and Section 3 of Sales Tax Act 1990 Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 read with Section 3 (1) 3 of Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89(i) of the Customs Act 1969 read with SRO 499(I)/2009 dated 13.06.2009 after completion of all the legal formalities.
Therefore, the officials confiscated the Smuggled Cloth under the customs laws. A case has been registered against accused owner of the seized cloth. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
