Faisalabad ASO seizes betel nuts from Karakoram Express

FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization recovered huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts from Karakoram Express.

Sources told Customs Today that Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi received information that huge quantity of betel nuts being transported from Lahore to Karachi through Karakoram Express. The team s served the notice to the in-charge of railway station to allow and to cooperate in search of the booked cargo compartment of the Karakoram train during its routine stay at Faisalabad Railway Station.

Sources said that the above mentioned anti-smuggling squad during checking of train recovered foreign origin betel nuts worth Rs 2 million. No one claimed the ownership of the recovered betel nuts. Customs team seized the entire betel nuts and shifted the same to Customs State Warehouse.

Sources said that betel nuts were seized under Section 16 of the Customs Act 1969 under punishable Clause (9) & (90) of the Customs Act 1969.
