Faisalabad ASO seizes contraband items worth Rs 32 million in May

FAISALABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Faisalabad’s Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) foiled almost 15 attempts of smuggling and seized items worth Rs 32 million, approximately, in May 2015.

Talking to Customs Today Faisalabad Customs Collector Tauseef Ahmed Qureshi appraised the performance of the ASO, adding that the collectorate was improving its performance over the time by adopting effective strategies against the smuggling outfits.

As per the details, the ASO impounded five non-duty paid vehicles in May worth Rs 8.27 million, involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.32 million. Besides, it confiscated various contraband items worth Rs 23.76 million, involving duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 6.39 million in nine cases.

To another query, Collector Tauseef hoped that the collectorate would achieve 100 percent target of revenue collection by the end of current fiscal year under all heads, including customs duty, sales tax, income tax, withholding tax and federal excise duty.

On the other hand, the Faisalabad Customs has earned Rs 3.411 million through auction of seized vehicles and Rs 1.150 million through auction of miscellaneous goods.

As per the details, 14 vehicle were presented in the auction, while bids against 10 vehicles were rejected by the authorities concerned.
