Faisalabad ASO seizes non-duty paid cigarettes, safron

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized cigarettes and saffron (zafrani patti) worth Rs 212,000 involving duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 742,867.

ASO Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan, after receiving information regarding some smuggling attempts, made a team following the instructions of Collector Dr Zulafqar to foil the smuggling bid.

The team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspector Masood Saeed Chohan, Abdul Jabbar, Khalid Ashrif Noor and sepoys Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Zulfiqar Ali Awan, Liaqat Ali and Muhammad Ashraf raided near Khurrianwala Sheikhupura- Lahore, Road Faisalabad and intercepted a Suzuki Bolan.

The officials found 600 packet of zafrani patti, Supreme Royal, JK Flavour Tobaco and 75 cartons of non-duty paid cigarettes from the vehicle. The recovered items along with vehicle were confiscated under Section 2 (s) read with SRO 566(1)/2005 section 16, 18 of the Customs Act, 1969, as driver could not show any legal documents in this regard.

Later, the seizure report was submitted to the Customs Adjudication department for legal action.
