Faisalabad ASO seizes smuggled cigarettes, glasses and watches

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 501,582 during road checking and registered cases against alleged smugglers.

Following credible information received through Collector Dr Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary that smuggled items will be supplied to Faisalabad from other cities thorough train and bus. The collector; therefore, formed a team.

The ASO team raided railways station and bus stand under the supervision of Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad. During the raids, the team seized foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 255,000, optical eye glasses frames worth Rs 166,596 and digital wrist watches worth Rs 79,896

Officials said that all the seized items were brought into the country without payment of customs duty and taxes causing loss to national kitty. The customs confiscated all items as accused person namely as Muhammad Ashraf and Abdul Rehman remained failed to produce evidence regarding legal import of the items.

The ASO team consisting of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspector Masood Saeed Chohan, Sepoys Abdul Jabbar, Zulifqar Ali, Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Abdullah and Driver Afzal Hussain participated in the raids.
