FAISALABAD: The Anti Smuggling Organiation (ASO) team during an ongoing anti-smuggling drive initiated on directions of Member Customs (Operations) Jawwad Awais Agha raided a godown at Jhang road Faisalabad and recovered a huge quantity of foreign origin coconut 440 bags Indian origin worth Rs 5 million, involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 3.5 million.
According to details, on information shared by sources, Faisalabad customs inspector Abdul Rehman But foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign origin coconut in a raid at godown of Azan Traders Jhang Road Faisalabad. The ASO team asked the owner of godown to produce documents regarding the possession and transportation of these 440 bags of coconut but he failed to provide any relevant documents.
After his failure, the ASO team seized the the smuggled items under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 for violation of section 2(S) 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969.
Sources said that the Anti Smuggling Organization team was doing its surveillance on the road. Smuggled goods were brought into the country without payment of duty and taxes through unauthorized routes to avoid law enforcement agencies’ action.
It is necessary to mention here that Collector Muhammad Saleem directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt with iron hands. The ASO team after registering a case started further investigation into the case.
