Faisalabad ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 1.58m during third week of October

FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has conducted various operations against smugglers on the special instructions of Additional Collector Saeed Asad and recovered goods worth Rs 1.58 million during the third week of October 2016.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan constituted a team to curb smuggling activities in the region. The ASO team consisted of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Masood Saeed Chohan and Safdar Ali Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The ASO officials also impounded two non-duty paid tempered vehicles worth Rs 700,000. The team also confiscated foreign origin cloth worth Rs 139125 Indian tea Rs 67424, tyres tubes Rs 3645000, foreign origin cigarettes Rs 136400 and different goodsworth Rs 174722. All these items were brought into the country without payment of customs duty and taxes.

Sources said that owners of these goods were failed to show any any relevant documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods. After their failure ASO team seized the goods and vehicle under Import and Export Control Act. 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89(i) 90 of the Customs Act 1969 and forward the cases to Customs Adjudication Faisalabad for legal action against accused persons.
