Faisalabad Customs Adjudication declares seizure of dry fruits lawful

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Faisalabad Deputy Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad has declared the seizure of dry fruits lawful.

As per details, Anti-Smuggling Organisation intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. TKN-151 coming from Quetta near Bhakkar Road Jhang and brought it to Faisalabad dry port. The ASO staff thoroughly examined all the goods in the presence of Muhammad Naeem, Manager of Quetta Goods Transport Company, and found 14 items of dry fruits, nine of which were foreign origin and remaining five were local.

The ASO seized the foreign origin dry fruits on suspicion of smuggling and set a report to adjudication for deciding the case. Deputy Collector Adjudication Muhammad Saeed Asad decided the case in favour of the Customs Department as it was proved that the goods were smuggled.

However, the respondents showed their willingness to pay duty/taxes on the seized goods, on which the court announced that consignment could be released to the actual owner after receiving leviable taxes and a redemption fine of 20 percent of the customs value to be appraised by the Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad.
