Faisalabad Customs confiscates 888 kg of non-duty-paid cloth

FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 24 rolls of foreign origin smuggled cloth, the estimated value of the cloth is Rs 0.62 million involving Rs 0.31 million customs duty and taxes.

Sources told Customs Today that after receiving a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt, Additional Director Azmat Tahira has constituted a raiding team comprising Asghar Mehdi Naqvi (IO), Zulfiqar ali Awan and Shoukat Hayat.

The accused person namely Khalil-Ur-Rehman son of Muhammad Sharif, who is a resident of Khanewal has claimed the ownership of the smuggled cloth. The authorities asked him to show any legal document but he failed to produce any documentary evidence regarding legally import or lawful possession.

Therefore, the customs officials seized the smuggled cloth under section 168 of the customs act 1969 and sent seizure report adjudication department for further process.
