Faisalabad Customs confiscates non duty paid energy savers

FAISALABAD: The Customs Collectorate has seized a huge quantity of foreign origin energy savers worth Rs 1,250,000 involving duty and taxes Rs 145,000 and impounded Mazda truck worth Rs1,600,000 under Section 157 of the Customs Act 1969 which was being used for smuggling purpose.

Sources told that Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamadani received secret information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle energy savers through unauthorized route and without paying of duty taxes.

He constituted a raiding team of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) under the supervision of Customs Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi and others. The team, during a search operation near Deputywala Interchange intercepted a Mazda Truck bearing registration No, LES-08-3433.

During the search operation, the team impounded 1152 pieces of energy savers including Hero SKD, Smart SKD, Comax SKD, Active plus SKD, Para Mount LED Bulb, LED Roup light, Spiral Shell tube and others in weight 1260 kilograms.

The team took into possession of all the energy savers and arrested two smugglers namely Umar Shahzad son of Iftikhar Ahmed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs Collectorate Faisalabad forward the case to customs adjudication for further legally action.
