Faisalabad Customs impounds smuggled Hilux on actionable secret info

FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has taken into possession smuggled Toyota Hilux surf valued at Rs1.8million involving customs duties and taxes of Rs750000.

Sources told Customs Today that, following a tip-off received by Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig, the ASO team conducted a raid near Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad and intercepted a foreign origin F/O Toyota Hilux surf with registration No: BF-2989, Model 1999, smuggled into the country without payment of customs duties and taxes after getting a search warrant from judicial magistrate Faisalabad.

On demand, the owner of the vehicle namely Sheraz Ahmed Gill son of Afzal Ahmed Gill could not show the legal documents nor any proof of the lawful import.

So the ASO impounded the vehicle under Section 2(S) read with SRO 566 (1) 2005 Section 16, 18, 168, of the Customs Act-1969 and Section 3 of Sales Tax Act-1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance-2001 read with Section 3 (1) 3 of Import and Export Control Act-1950 which is punishable under Section 156 (1)90 of the Customs Act-1969 read with SRO 499 (I) 2009 after the completion of all the legal formalities.

A seizure report along with an enclosure was sent to the Customs Adjudication Department for further legal action.
