Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes cell phones worth Rs 1.3m

FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation busted a cell phones smuggling attempt near Circular Road, Faisalabad and confiscated 1530 sets worth Rs 1.37 million involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs 2.28 million.

According to the details, Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain received credible information that an attempt would be made through a truck to smuggle foreign origin cell phones.

The deputy director formed a team, comprising Superintendent Saifullah Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officers Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, Sepoys Mukhtar Ahmed, Khalil Ahmed, Shoukat Hayat, Fakhar Abbas and Muhammad Iqbal to foil the smuggling bid.

The customs officials intercepted a truck bearing Registration No JY-2697 near Gumti Chowk Circular Road, Faisalabad and recovered 228 cartons of mobile phones, including android models.

The officials asked driver named Hassan Munir son of Munir Ahmed to show documents regarding legal import of the phones but he could not produce the same. Therefore, the customs seized the cell phones and arrested two accused persons.

A case of smuggling under Section 2(S) 16, and 18 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 3(1)(3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156 (1) 89 and 178 of the Customs Act 1969 would be registered against them.
