Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 11.9m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs 11.94 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 5.415 million during last week of September 2016.

According to the details, the intelligence team following the directions of Additional Director Muhammad Asif khan conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, three cases of smuggling were registered against suspects.

The Customs Intelligence impounded Toyota Land Cruiser Prado bearing Registration No BD- 5593 worth Rs 3.5 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 4 million. The vehicle was allegedly smuggled by Sarafraz, a suspect in the case.

The officials also confiscated computer system, printer, LCD monitor, Laptop etc worth Rs 7.5 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 831,000 during the said period. Accused persons in this case are Shafqat Ali and others.

On the other hand, the field investigation unit (FIU), Khushab impounded foreign origin LED TVs worth Rs 940,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 584,093. Rana Electronics, Sargodha has been nominated as accused by intelligence staff in the case.

The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce documents showing the legal import of the items.

The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
