FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs 15.657 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.966 million during first week of September 2016.
The intelligence team following the directions of Additional Director Muhammad Asif Khan conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, three cases of smuggling were registered against suspects.
The Customs Intelligence seized a huge quantity of cell phones, allegedly smuggled by Hassan Munir and others involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 283,280.
The field investigation unit (FIU), Khushab impounded Suzuki Jimny Jeep bearing Registration No JAF-042 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 983,000 during the said period. Accused person in this case is Hijratullah son of Killa Abdulla.
On the other hand, the intelligence staff seized 45 cartons of shelled almonds involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 700,000. Muhammad Shfique and Al Hassnain Traders, Faisalabad have been nominated as accused by intelligence staff in the case.
The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items.
The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
