Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 5.4m in last week of July

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs 5.44 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.143 million during last week of July 2016.

According to the details, the intelligence team following the directions of Additional Director Azmat Tahira conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, five cases of smuggling were registered against suspects.

The Customs Intelligence seized a huge quantity of Rani juice, allegedly smuggled by Muhammad Sarwar, Najeebullah and Nadeem Tahir etc involving duty/taxes amounting to 810,000.

The field investigation unit (FIU), Khushab seizef miscellaneous items worth Rs 1.47 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 549,994 during the said period. Accused person in this case is Zafar Iqbal who is resident of Sargodha.

On the other hand, the FIU Khusahb impounded a Toyota Premio car bearing Registration No. AAQ-996 model 2008 worth Rs 2.5 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.783. Abdul Ali who is resident of Quetta has been nominated as accused by intelligence staff in the case.

The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items.

The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
