Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes non-duty paid foreign origin generator

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled foreign origin used generator worth Rs 735,000 involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 400,000 during a successful raid.

Sources told Customs Today that Faisalabad Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain received information regarding smuggling of a generator on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Muhammad Tahir and Intelligence Officers, Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, and sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Tariq to thwart the smuggling attempt.

The intelligence team intercepted Mazda mini truck bearing registration no. RIS-2417 near Jhang Road Pansra loaded with foreign origin Nissan brand old and used Generator of 15-20 KVA.

The team asked the driver namely Ghulam Mustafa son of Muhammad Rafique resident of Chak No. 223/RB Rasoolpura to shows documents regarding legal import of the generator. He produced a copy of GD No, FD RY-HC-1747 regarding import of old used air compressor from UK but the customs authorities after finding difference in documents seized the generator under Section 2(s), and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 and 3(1) and 3(3) of the Import and Exports Control Act. 1950.
