Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled goods worth Rs69.628m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs69.628 million involved in duty and taxes of Rs27.765 during Five month (July-November) Financial year 2016-17.

According to details, the intelligence team following the directions of Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, 29 cases of smuggling were registered against suspects. He added that the customs intelligence staff impounded non-duty paid vehicles and other goods during various operations.

The Customs Intelligence impounded Toyota Land Cruiser Prado bearing registration No BD- 5593. The officials also confiscated computer system, printer, LCDs monitor, Laptop etc during the said period.

On the other hand, the field investigation unit (FIU), Khushab impounded foreign origin LED TVs. The Customs Intelligence teams foiled a number of smuggling bids in Khushab, Sargodha and Faisalabad. The officials registered seven cases in July, four cases in August, three in September, 5 in October, 10 in November cases during the above said period.

The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce documents showing the legal import of the items.

The intelligence teams comprising Senior Intelligence officer Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Siddique, Mohammad Saleem and Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed, Shoukat Hayat participated in the operation. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
