FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled goods worth Rs 16.720 million involved in duty/taxes of Rs3.364 million besides impounded offending vehicles worth Rs600,000 in different anti-smuggling activities during the third week of December 2016.
Customs official told Customs Today that the customs intelligence conducted operations on the instruction of Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain against the smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction, included Sargodha, Khushab and Faisalabad.
As per the detail the customs intelligence teams confiscated smuggled goods included computer systems worth Rs9.839 million involving in customs duty of Rs2 million, laptops worth Rs6.881 million involving customs duty and of Rs1.305 million.
During the actions the customs official asked the accused persons Kashif Ramzan and Muhammad Ashraf to produce the legal document of the above mentioned items but they were failed to produce the same.
The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce documents showing the legal import of the items.
The intelligence officers team comprising Senior Intelligence officer Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Siddique, Mohammad Saleem and Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed, Shoukat Hayat participated in the operation. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action. The seizure cases have been referred to the Customs Adjudication for further legal actions.
