Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled tyres Rs 2.4m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized foreign origin smuggled tyres of different brands and sizes worth Rs 2.4 million involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 1.4 million during a successful raid.

Customs Intelligence Additional Director Asif Abbas Khan received information regarding smuggling of tyres on which he formed a team comprising Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain Superintendent Saifullah, intelligence officers Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Tariq to curb the smuggling.

The intelligence team raided near Gutwala Toll Plaza Sheikhpura Road, Faisalabad and intercepted Mazda Mini truck bearing Registration No LES-09-2706 coming from Lahore and going to Layyah. The officials recovered tyres of different origin, including Indonesia, Japan Thailand, Taiwan and others.

The team asked the driver namely as Muhammad Latif son of Abdul Sattar to produce documents regarding legal import of the items but he remained fail to do the same. The intelligence staff seized tyres and registered a case against accused person.
