Faisalabad I&I foils bid to smuggle red chilli seeds worth Rs8m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation team foiled an attempt of smuggling of red chilli seeds worth Rs 8 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 3.5 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shaukat received credible information from his source about the smuggling of foreign origin red chilli seeds.

Deputy Director formed special team to thwart any smuggling attempt. Special team comprised Sepoy Mansoor Nasir, Muhammad Shahbaz, Muhammad Zeeshan and hawaldar Muhammad Iqbal and others.

Customs Intelligence team searched a truck parked near Jhang Road and found foreign origin red chilli seeds 50 bags. The red chilli seeds were being transported to Faisalabad from Narowal.

Customs Intelligence team asked the owner Naimat ullah to produce documents showing the legal import of the recovered items but he failed to produce any documents. Customs team seized the red chilli seeds under Customs Act 1969. Further investigations against the seized red chilli seeds are still underway till the filing of this report.
