Faisalabad I&I seizes smuggled apples worth Rs4.8m

FAISALABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled an attempt to smuggle 19000 kilograms apples worth more than Rs4.9 million. The Customs I&I team also impounded Hino truck worth Rs 1.6 million which was being used for smuggling purpose.

Sources told Customs Today the anti-smuggling staff received information that huge quantity of foreign origin apples will be smuggled. The anti-smuggling staff intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no: AP-0087 near Chowk Pensra Jhang Road which was coming from Afghanistan.

At the time of occurrence, one Muhammad Iqbal son of Khan was driving the Hino truck. Apparently, the said truck was loaded with Afghan origin apples. A thorough search of the truck was conducted in the presence of witnesses and driver, which led to the recovery of the of foreign origin apples.

On demand, the truck driver produced irrelevant Goods Declaration (GD). During scrutiny of the above-mentioned GD, it was found tempered and bogus. Therefore anti-smuggling staff seized the apples along with truck under section 168 of the Customs Act 1969.
