KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement West has registered a first information report (FIR) against clearing agent Javed Akhtar for submitting a fake export certificate.
Sources told Customs Today that the case came to light when credible information was received by Collector Appraisement West, Naveed Ilahi, and Deputy Collector Saima Butt, indicating that some unscrupulous persons were involved in the clearance of vehicles using forged export certificates provided by M/S Javed Zaman Enterprises.
To verify the authenticity of the export certificate, a team led by Principal Appraiser Rasheed Khan and Appraising Officer Zia ur Rehman referred the matter to the Commercial/T&I Counselor at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Tokyo. The embassy confirmed via email that the submitted document was indeed fake and provided details of the forgery.
The embassy’s email confirmed that the export certificate was false, forged, and not genuine.
Consequently, the vehicles in question were not importable under sub-para-6 of section 32 and 32-A of the Customs Act 1969. Despite this, the consignee and clearing agent attempted to clear the vehicle using Goods Declaration (GD) No. KAPW-VB-190159-07-06-2024.
During initial investigation it was revealed that the accused importer, Haq Nawaz Khan, and his clearing agent, Javed Akhtar, along with their accomplices, were involved in the submission of the fake export certificate. The investigation is ongoing to detect all parties involved in this fraudulent activity.
