ISLAMABAD: An assessment team of Financial Action Task Force’s Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering will hold talks with Pakistani officials in Islamabad from March 26 to 28, according to media reports.

The APG is a FATF-style regional body for the Asia-Pacific region. It consists of 41 member jurisdictions and a number of observer jurisdictions and international or regional observer organisations.

As per the Mutual Evaluation methodology, the Asia Pacific Group assessment team would conduct a meeting to discuss the second draft Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) with the relevant stakeholders.

The agenda of the meeting proposes to structure discussion of the 11 immediate outcomes (and TC issues) in order of priority.

The MER, if adopted in its current form by the APG in its annual meeting expected in August 2019, carries the risk that it may translate into another ICRG process and a detailed action plan for Pakistan, they said further.

Keeping in view the sensitivity and gravity of the matter, the sources said, Pakistan was suggested that senior-level officials, who have a detailed knowledge of the content of the MER and the FATF assessment methodology, may be nominated to attend the meetings.

They added that this may be the last opportunity for the concerned authorities to convince upon the APG Mutual Assessment Team.
