As a deputy spoke with the driver, a 42-year-old man identified as Javier Rodriguez of Zapata, the officer observed “criminal indicators” that led him to ask for consent to search the car, the sheriff’s office said.

Another deputy and the agency’s canine drug dog, Lobos, alerted officers to the trunk of the car, the sheriff’s office said. Inside, police found the suspected marijuana.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Lobos and his handler, deputy Randy Thumann, have seized large quantities of suspected drugs valued in the millions in the past several months.
