FBR allows Customs to purchase new boats to curb smuggling

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to upgrade the Customs fleet in order to strengthen anti-smuggling activities on sea and land routes, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the FBR has consented to the Model Customs Collectorate Preventive for purchasing patrolling boats for surveillance and investigation within the jurisdiction of 12 nautical miles from the coast line, in and around Makran coast of Pakistan. They further disclosed that the FBR would also release an appropriate fund in upcoming days.

Responding to a query, they revealed that the Preventive is going to purchase four patrolling boats in first phase, adding that the construction of four coastal patrol boats in the offing in order to maintain strict vigilance along the coastal-line.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Collector Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda has already hinted that the collectorate has already sent a summary to FBR for purchasing new equipped boats to counter the smuggling activities.
