FBR amends section 83 of Customs Act 1969 to facilitate importers

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has provided a big relief and facility to importers through amendment in the section 83 of the Customs Act 1969.

According to the details, Federal Board of Revenue has empowered the collector of customs that he/she may release imported goods regarding the offence in which imported goods are not liable to confiscated. Now concerned section 83 of customs act has been amended and “83 B, inserted.

New section provides relief to importers and said that where any offence is detected in respect of imported goods which are not liable to confiscation or needed for evidence at a later stage, the collector of customs may, on written request of owner of the goods, allow release of the same on payment of duty, taxes or other charges and furnishing bank guarantee or pay order against the amount of any penalty or fine which may be imposed on such goods. The purpose of this change is to facilitate the importers.
