FBR to establish new Customs I&I Directorate at Gilgit-Baltistan

ISLAMABAD: At last Federal Board of Revenue has finally given the approved the summary for establishing a new Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate at Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the details, Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation will establish a new regional Directorate at Gilgit Baltistan.

Directorate General Customs I&I headquarters was waiting for this decision from long time. It is important to mention here that currently Gilgit Baltistan directorate is functioning under the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and any complaint regarding the smuggling, Rawalpindi directorate have to send the staff for action or resolving the issue which is not viable.

Sources told that main purpose to establish a new directorate is to control the menace of smuggling and keep eye on the culprits and black sheep in the customs which are providing aid to smugglers. This regional directorate will be also part of the China Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) in future.

It is pertinent to mention here that Customs Collectorate already has been established there and performing well in terms of revenue collection under the supervision of Chief collector North Sarwat Tahira Habib. Sources told that after establishing a new regional directorate, Customs Intelligence will effectively counter the smuggling activities in jurisdiction.
