ISLAMABAD: Following unsatisfactory results received from Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme so far, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all regional offices to prepare a list of non-filer traders aiming at establishing the writ of FBR in country.

The board also asked the commissioners to demand the monitoring reports on daily basis from Inland Revenue (IR) officers so a effective strategy could be designed to recover the evaded tax amount from the defaulters.

Officials said that the FBR had approved the scheme unwillingly in the light of past experiences. The current results had not disappointed the board, as it has witnessed the same in the past, they said, adding that almost 5300 returns have received so far through the tax amnesty scheme.

The officials further said that tax amnesty scheme helped the board to expose the traders’ representatives who were raising voices to get approved their demands and claiming to bring the huge number of traders into tax system.

It is important to mention here that traders’ representatives had claimed to bring one million traders into tax net but they could not do the same. Now, FBR will take stern actions against the tax defaulters without any hesitation, as a chance was given to them to facilitate them but they remained reluctant.

The FBR had warned the government about the possible results but government was willing to give another chance to the traders.
