FBR chief Pasha, Member Customs Khokhar played central role in release of items: Abdul Basit

LAHORE: At least 400 containers, which were stuck in the port, were released through the good offices of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Pasha and Member Customs Zahid Khokhar, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Abdul Basit has said.

Talking to Customs Today, he that the containers were carrying used auto parts the import of which is prohibited in the country. However, the FBR chairman and member customs played central role in resolving the issue.

A delegation of Auto Parts Association visited the LCCI president to thank him for approaching the senior FBR officials for the release of containers.

“Both LCCI and the Auto Parts Association took up the issue with FBR and finally were able to get the issue resolved and the authorities have consented to release over 400 containers which is a landmark success,” the LCCI chief said.

Old Auto Parts Importers Trade Association chairman Mian Muhammad Aslam said that they have been importing the old auto parts since 2006 but now the FBR has banned the imports.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the containers were stuck up the association office-bears contacted Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry while LCCI approached the FBR chairman Tariq Pasha and Member Customs Zahid for the release of the container.

The LCCI President Abdul Basit while talking with Customs Today said that many LCCI members are involved in the import of Old and Used Auto Parts made deliberations that hundreds of containers containing used auto parts (cabin / half cut HTV / LTV / Cars) have been stopped at the port due to the provisions of SRO 563(I)/2017 issued on July 01, 2017.

The LCCI made the requested to get clearance of pending consignments of restricted parts where bills of lading have been issued till July 31, 2017. Finally FBR order to release the containers.
