KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) says that the demand for withdrawal of amendments to SRO 608 by traders is not fair.

The sources of at the FBR Regional Tax Office says: “The FBR has decided to take action against such traders who are not paying taxes and are preventing others from doing so after the end of filing sales tax return date.”

Sources said, “The FBR intends to bring all the small and big traders into the tax net and the institution is making every effort in this regard but some traders are unjustifiably demanding the withdrawal of the amendments to the SRO and that the FBR will not withdraw the amendments in anyway and everyone will have to follow these rules.”

Sources said that talks of besieging the regional tax offices by the trade organisations would not give them anything benefit.

The FBR sources said that after the expiry of the due date, action will be taken against all such small and big traders who would not submit the tax return.

On the other hand, the chairman of Karachi Trade Union Atiq Mir has said that the registration of air-conditioned markets, air-conditioned shops, and traders with Rs 5 million annual turnover has been exercised. Traders will not file annual income tax returns until the SRO 608 amendments would be withdrawn and the tax survey teams would not be allowed to enter markets in any condition.
