ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to audit payment of sales tax refunds to tax payers during the last four years.
A statutory regulatory order 1320 issued to amend sales tax rules empowered the commissioner inland revenue to order manual post-refund scrutiny of claims on the plea of suspicious claims.
The audit would be conducted on only those refunds which are deemed suspicious by the commissioner. The order for scrutiny can be passed on the basis of information, pre-determined criteria or otherwise, to determine whether the refund sanctioned to registered person was admissible.
The audit cases would be for refunds post June 30, 2014.
