FBR launching operation to broaden tax net

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to launch an operation against tax evaders and bring the potential taxpayers into the tax net. The board has also decided to increase the powers of the Broadening of Tax Base commissioners.

Customs officials told Customs Today that the department has asked Member Land Revenue Operation Dr Muhammad Arshad to organize a plan to expand the tax net. He will form the plan and also implement it through proper channel. Dr Arshad gave briefing to all commissioners of Broadening of Tax Base in a meeting which was held under the supervision of FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan.

During the meeting Dr. Arshad examine the performance of BTB Commissioners and told them about the method to bring new taxpayer in tax network. He told the commissioners how many taxpayers brought in network and issued notice to how many defaulters and what was result observed after sent notice. He said that he will explain about increase the authorities in next meeting of board council.

The FBR chairman said during the meeting the productive result will be difficult without adding new taxpayer in network. He said that we can not impose further tax on existing taxpayers. On this the department decided to bring new taxpayer into tax net under the head of BTB commissioners.

The officials added that the FBR has improved and strengthened its system to trace non-taxpayers, adding that no extra burden will be put on old taxpayers.
