SIALKOT: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the Customs Department to bound all customs clearing agents and their permit holders to submit police character certificate to work in field.
Sources told Customs Today that the FBR has issued a letter to all collectors customs in the country that they should make mandatory for the customs clearing agents and their permit holders to submit police character certificate to work in the field otherwise they will not be allowed to work as customs clearing agents and permit holders. Sources also said that a majority of customs clearing agents and their permit holders is working without submitting any police certificate in the customs collectorate but according to new law they are bound to submit police certificates.
Sources said that FBR strictly mentioned in its letter that all customs collectorate should direct to all customs clearing agents that they should submit their policecCharacter ertificate and their permit holder within 20 days.
Sources told that those customs clearing agent or their permit holder will not submit police character certificate will not be allowed to work and their customs clearing license will be suspended and it will be restored upon submission of police character certificate himself and his permit holder.
Sources told already all customs officials has already submitted their police character certificate after receivng directions from FBR. Sources also clarified that concerned District Police Offier (DPO) is authorised to issue police character certificate. On the other hand customs clearing agents Sheikh Amir Javed, Tariq Hussain, Shakeel Ahmed while hailding the decision of FBR said that they will submit all the required documents to collectorate of customs.
An official of customs collectorate Sialkot Muhammad Naeem told Customs Today that police character certificate is very mandatory in view of current law and order situation of the country.
