FBR detects Rs1070m more tax evasions than last year

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue, has showed tremendous performance after the assumption of the charge by Director General Shaukat Ali on 15th of October.

During the period of four months (15th of Oct 2016 to 15th of Feb 2107), Directorate General, in countrywide operations, has seized miscellaneous goods including smuggled and fake cigarettes, non-duty paid cars, smuggled foreign origin cloths, diesel, petrol, auto parts, black tea, carpets, tyres and tubes, Gutka, toiletries and electronic worth Rs2210.60million. During the same period in last year, the directorate general had seized goods valued Rs1745million, so there is 26.88 percent more increase in the collection of customs and duties by the Islamabad directorate general.

During the four month, directorate general has detected evasions of duties and taxes worth Rs4985.96million while it had detected Rs332.08million taxes and duty evasions in the last year. There is 1401.4 percent record increase in taxes and duty evasion. Director General Shaukat Ali has lauded the performance of all directorates and expressed the hope that level of performance will be increased further. The director general has also especially appreciated the performance of Rawalpindi, Karachi Customs enforcement, Lahore and Faisalabad directorates of Customs I&I as these four directorates had caught big cases of tax evasions by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, Farooq Corporation, M/s Kontel Technologies, M/s Chase Trading Company Islamabad and M/s Essatex industries.

It is important to mention here that Customs I&I has also arrested customs officers in many cases and inquiries against the few are underway.
