FBR directs Customs I&I to probe regarding smuggling through trains

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken action on the complaint of I.G Railway Police, and directed Customs Intelligence and Investigation to submit a report in this regard.

Sources told that I.G Railway Police had received a complaint regarding involvement of policemen and some customs officials in facilitating, aiding and abetting smuggling of goods through railway. The complaint requested scrutiny of assets of a large number of officials of Railway Police and customs.

Deputy Collector FBR (HQ) Asim Rehman directed Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi, Hyderabad and Lahore to investigate the case and submit a report in 7 days. The city has become home to the sale of smuggled goods, which are being brought by trains from Lahore and Peshawar. According to a local trader, the government has been suffering a loss of millions of rupees because of the Customs’ officials malpractice.
