FBR directs Customs I&I to probe regarding smuggling through trains

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken action on the complaint of I.G Railway Police, and directed Customs Intelligence and Investigation to submit a report in this regard.

Sources told that I.G Railway Police had received a complaint regarding involvement of policemen and some customs officials in facilitating, aiding and abetting smuggling of goods through railway. The complaint requested scrutiny of assets of a large number of officials of Railway Police and customs.

The city has become home to the sale of smuggled goods, which are being brought by trains from Lahore and Peshawar. According to a local trader, the government has been suffering a loss of millions of rupees because of the Customs’ officials malpractice.
