ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed a Senior Auditor, Mr. Altaf Hussain Khurho, from service in connection with a Rs238.41 billion tax fraud case, citing gross negligence and inefficiency in investigation.

According to an official notification issued by the Revenue Division (Administration/HR Wing), the action follows a disciplinary inquiry into FIR No. 01/2024, registered by RTO-I Karachi against M/s New Metro Foodwear Co. and 12 co-accused. The case involved allegations of a massive tax fraud totaling Rs238.421 billion.

An inquiry conducted by Mr. Aftab Alam (IRS/BS-20) concluded that the officer was guilty of inefficiency, initially recommending a minor penalty. However, upon review, the Member (Admn/HR) deemed the findings insufficient, upgrading the penalty to “removal from service” under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.

The inquiry found that the accused officer failed to take effective steps to arrest the main culprits or prevent them from obtaining bail, showing “serious lapses” amounting to criminal negligence. The notification stated that due to his inaction, a loss of Rs79.86 million remains unrecovered from the beneficiaries.

The FBR emphasized that the decision reflects its firm commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency within the tax administration. Mr. Khurho has the right to appeal the decision within 30 days under the Civil Servants (Appeals) Rules, 1977.
