MULTAN: Employees of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) across the country, including Multan, staged protest demonstrations on the call of the FBR Employees Welfare Union to demand the acceptance of their long-standing demands. The protests featured strong sloganeering against what the union termed discriminatory and unjust policies of the revenue authority.
A significant reaction was observed at the Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) Multan, where protesters expressed outrage over alleged threats made by the female Chief Commissioner to staff members.
Addressing the protesting employees, FBR Employees Union (All Pakistan) Chairman Tahir Khakwani criticized the FBR’s policies, calling them unfair, unequal, discriminatory, oppressive, and anti-employee. He said that non-cadre employees and junior officers have been reduced to a struggling class, entirely dependent on their basic salaries, while the government continues to extend undue privileges to CSS cadre officers.
He pointed out that officers in Grade 17 to 21 are being granted allowances equal to their basic salaries, receiving shares from point-of-sale collections, being allotted expensive vehicles under ownership models, and rewarded with substantial performance bonuses and incentives.
Protests were also held in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Vehari, Lodhran, and Bahawalnagar as part of the union’s countrywide call.
Union representatives confirmed that symbolic strikes and protest demonstrations will continue until the acceptance of their demands
