ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established two check posts near the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) border to inspect vehicles transporting goods from tax-exempt regions, in an effort to curb revenue leakages.
According to details, the Kohala Bridge Check Post has been set up on the Kohala Bridge route connecting Muzaffarabad (AJK) to Murree and Abbottabad.
Meanwhile, the Nakoder Check Post has been established at Nakoder (Dina) on the Mangla Road near Mirpur, directing towards Jhelum Road.
The initiative is backed by SRO 2185(I)/2025, issued Thursday, under the powers granted by rule 69F of the Sales Tax Rules, 2006. The SRO authorizes the establishment of check posts on routes that originate from tax-exempt areas.
Under the new framework, vehicles carrying goods from these exempt zones must be accompanied by proper documentation. The Regional Tax Office concerned has been tasked with examining the goods and verifying the accompanying papers at the designated check posts.
FBR stated that officers not below the rank of Inspector, Inland Revenue—duly authorized by the Commissioner—may stop vehicles, review documents, and ensure that the goods being transported conform to the declared information.
The move aims to strengthen monitoring, prevent misuse of tax exemptions, and safeguard national revenue.
