ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the deadline for filing Sales Tax and Federal Excise Duty (FED) returns for the tax period of April 2025. Businesses and taxpayers now have until June 5, 2025, to submit their returns, giving them additional time beyond the original due date of May 18, 2025.

The FBR communicated the extension through a directive issued to its field formations, invoking its powers under section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005. The move aims to facilitate taxpayers in meeting their compliance requirements.

However, the FBR clarified that the extension is conditional. The actual sales tax liability must be paid by the original deadline of May 18, 2025. Only the return submission has been granted an extension, not the payment of taxes due.

The announcement comes amid ongoing engagements between the FBR and various industry stakeholders ahead of the upcoming federal budget.
