FBR extends powers of Maritime Security, Coast Guards

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the powers Pakistan Coast Guards, Maritime Security Agency, Frontier Corps and Pakistan Ranger in FATA for one year.

However, they will  not be authorized to harass the people, making hurdles in imports and exports and also not be authorized to search the goods after clearance in the Customs area.

According to details, maritime zone Balochistan, KPK, and Pakistan Coast Guards, Meritime Security Agency Frontier Corps and Pakistan Ranger in FATA will enjoy this powers of anti-smuggling till June 30, 2016. These agencies will be authorized to used these powers within 20 kilometers of the international borders but they could not use this power in bounded warehouses, municipal boundaries, customs areas, border customs stations, international airports and sea ports. They are also not authorized by the FBR to search the goods cleared by customs authority in customs areas. While smuggled goods will be seized by these agencies under customs act 1969.
