ISLAMABAD: On the instruction of Finance, Revenues and Economic Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar, the Federal Board of Revenue has decided to extend the date for filling of income tax returns for tax year 2016.

The FBR extended the due date of October 31, 2016 for filing of income tax returns/statements by salaried persons, individual, AOPs, and companies up to November 30, 2016.

The FBR extended the date in view of the present situation in the country and following the request of business community. It is fact that a number of taxpayers could not file the tax returns due to the present political situation in the country, officials claimed.

They added that the numbers of filling returns are less than the same period of previous year, as taxpayers accordingly could not find ample time for filing their tax returns.

Therefore, in the spirit of taxpayers’ facilitation, the due date of filing of tax returns/statements has been extended till November 30, 2016.

Earlier, the final date for filing the income tax returns was September 30, which was extended by the FBR till October 31 in order to facilitate the taxpayers.

It is important to mention here that Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Shamim Ahmed Firpo had requested the FBR to extend last date for filing of income tax return up to December 31.
