FBR going to install ‘automated system’ to collect sales tax from today

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue-FBR is going to introduce “automated system” for collecting sales tax (ST) in upcoming days, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that a software will be installed in next few days, as the automated system has been formulated. The sources further said that a pilot project is to be started and installed for collecting sales tax through this new system.

Responding to a query, the sources informed that the Sales Tax Registration Number of the taxpayer is also to be verified through this newly introduced system.

Replying to another question, the sources confirmed that the new tax collecting system would be implemented from today (1-July, 2016) across the offices of FBR.

The sources further informed that the said system would also be installed at all account offices of Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), adding that the account officers of FBR would collect the sales tax through the said system and also make deduction where ever it would be found mandatory.

Replying to another question, the sources further informed that the said newly introduced software would be connected to the FBR account offices in order to take details of tax-payers and non-taxpayers.

The authorities concerned of federal finance ministry is eager to collect the tax in terms of sales tax, income tax and regulatory duty (RD) adding that the finance ministry has also directed the authorities concerned of FBR to take effective measures in order to increase the tax net.

The sources said that the introduction of the automated tax system would certainly increase the tax net and also make the tax-system transparent. The sources further said that the taxpayers would also get facilities to deposit their taxes through the newly introduced tax system without facing difficulties.
