FBR introduces ‘whistle blower’ protection law with aim to detect evaders

ISLAMABAD: To ensure the protection of informers who unveil the tax evasion by taxpayers and corrupt officials, the Federal Board of Revenue has introduced new law ‘whistle blowers’ by amending the income tax ordinance with effect from next week.

The FBR has added news section with heading of Section 72-D and 227-B in income tax ordinance in this regard.

By amending the law, FBR has aim to detect the tax evasion, scam cases and broad the tax net through the well wishers of department. Besides, whistle blowers will also help the FBR to catch the crook in the department those are helping the tax evaders for their vested interests.

To keep the name of informer confidential, the FBR will define the rules by issuing the notification in official gazette.

According to this law a reward will also be given to the informers to encourage them from the recovered amount, while the informer not to be offered any reward until department could recover evaded amount from the defaulters.

The FBR do not offer gift to well-wisher if in any case provided information lacks validity and department has already same information.
