ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued draft income tax return forms for Tax Year 2026 and invited taxpayers, tax consultants, and other stakeholders to submit feedback before the forms are finalized for the upcoming filing season.
Through SRO 835(I)/2026, the FBR released draft electronic income tax return forms for individuals and business taxpayers, giving stakeholders seven days to provide comments and suggestions.
According to the draft forms, taxpayers will now be required to disclose a summary of their economic transactions for the relevant tax year. The FBR stated that the information displayed in the system will be indicative and may continue to update based on available records.
“Please review available data of your economic transactions for the selected tax year. This is indicative data which keeps on updating as per available information. Therefore, correct reporting of income and tax thereon is primarily your own responsibility,” the draft instructions said.
Under the salary income section, salaried taxpayers will have to mention employer registration numbers, employer names, and details of tax deductions made during the year.
The draft return forms also require individuals to declare income earned from property during Tax Year 2026. In addition to salaried taxpayers, the FBR has also issued draft return forms for various business income categories.
Tax experts believe the early release of draft return forms signals that the FBR plans to officially launch the annual tax return filing season from July 1, 2026. Taxpayers are expected to receive the standard three-month filing window ending on September 30, 2026.
Pakistan has been pushing to improve tax compliance, documentation of the economy, and revenue collection as part of wider fiscal reforms linked to ongoing programmes with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
