FBR issues notices to 166 restaurants & marriage halls for ST registration

MULTAN: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Office (RTO) has issued notices to 166 different restaurants, marriage halls and hotels located in the city for sales tax registration.

The Federal Board of Revenue has launched massive scale campaign in on to register business of the hotels, marriage halls and restaurants for collection of legitimate taxes. Marriage marquees, hotels and restaurants industry is one of the major revenue generating sectors but tax collection from hotels and restaurants are less than actual income.

The Federal Board of Revenue has already collected data of marriage halls ,restaurants ,hotels and their actual income through survey and prepared list of top food chains that are collecting handsome charges from customers on their food stuffs but avoid paying actual taxes. Sources told Customs today that hotels, marriage halls and restaurants were directed to register their business with Federal Board of Revenue and Regional Tax Office before July 25, 2019.

Federal Board of Revenue has issued 166 restaurants, marriage halls and luxurious hotels located in Nawan Shehar ,Abdali Road , Cantt, Gulgasht, Ghanta Ghar ,Tariq Road and others to register them for collection of actual taxes.

It is also pertinent to mention here that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had already introduced a restaurant invoice monitoring system (RIMS) to determine the actual values of the restaurants’ sales in real time and deputed teams in different restaurants for this purpose.

The purpose of registration of restaurants, marriage halls and hotels is to bring them into tax net. Regional Tax Office Inland Revenue unit no.3 has also asked them to register their business and deposit 7% sales taxes on sale of their food items.
