ISLAMABAD: In an attempt to make public the tax details of members of National Assembly, Senate and provincial assemblies, FBR has issued National Tax Numbers to all non-NTN holders. The Board also directed all MPs to file their tax returns by February 7, otherwise they would be declared as non-filers in Tax Directory to be issued by February 15, 2014.

According to sources, FBR has allocated NTNs to 39 non-National Tax Number (NTN) holder members of Punjab Assembly; 23 members of Provincial Assembly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; 9 Provincial Assembly members of Balochistan and 8 Members of Sindh Provincial Assembly.
FBR has issued over 100 NTNs to the non-NTN holder parliamentarians during January 2014. Sources said that 78 NTNs have been issued to the parliamentarians during the two days.

The FBR has conveyed to the non-filer parliamentarians to file the income tax returns by February 7 positively, as the FBR has to follow the directions of the Ministry of Finance for publication of the Tax Directory by February 15. In case the non-filer parliamentarians would remain unable to file returns by February 7, the FBR will be left with no option but to publish their names as non-filers.
