ISLAMABAD: About 212 tax facilitation kiosks of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will remain open till midnight (23:59 hours) on Dec 16 to receive tax returns across the country. “The deadline for filing tax returns was Dec 15, but as this date falls on Sunday, the last date has been further extended for one day,” FBR spokesman Shahid Hussain said on Friday.

The FBR offices and tax facilitation kiosks will also remain open on Saturday and Sunday in order to give maximum facility to taxpayers, he added.

“On Dec 16, tax designated branches of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) will also remain open till 10pm for receiving tax returns,” he added.

Talking about the Prime Minister Tax Amnesty Scheme, the spokesman said that on Nov 28, the government announced the scheme under which individuals are encouraged to enter the national tax net without fear of audit.

The FBR has announced a package which exempts taxpayers from total audit if they pay 25 per cent more tax than last year’s declared or assessed tax; whichever is higher.

Taxpayers who have already filed their returns and intend to avail this facility may revise their Income Tax returns by Dec 15. However the taxpayers who have already filed their returns or revised returns without the pro forma for claiming immunity can file their revised pro forma II by Dec 31. More details are available at the FBR’s Website.
