FBR ‘may announce’ amnesty scheme for offshore companies owners

ISLAMABAD: The government is working to announce an amnesty scheme for the people mentioned in Panama Leaks.

Under the proposal, the Federal Board of Revenue would give the owners of offshore companies or who have assets and bank accounts abroad a chance to bring back their assets inside Pakistan by paying just 2 to 5 percent tax.

The formula has already been applied in India, Indonesia and many other countries. Now, the OECD tax treaty also enables Pakistan to exchange information on tax matters with over 83 countries.

According to the sources, the proposal has not yet been finalised, but such scheme would not be offered to the politicians and bureaucrats of the country.
